Ground She Walked
04:32
|
|||
All of my days and times
I sacrificed what was rightly mine
She said she's a woman but I liar I believe
She knew too well right where she had me
Cause I gave her my heart and she knew she could get more
Had me call up the devil "Oh boy come fetch my soul"
Yeah cause I used to kiss the ground that she walked
And I bet you can guess where this old story goes
After all what's a man after he's sold his soul
A ghost I'd become and bored she grew
She said I'm in love but babe no longer with you
Yeah but I still kissed the ground that she walked
Well she never turned around no she never even looked back
She married some lawyer named Jimmy, Johnny, or Jack
I tried and I tried but I just could not let go
Knew I had to bury my heart if I ever wanted back my soul
Cause I could not kiss the ground that she walked
And on the day the preacher man laid her down
I was there in chains to sing her in the ground
A helpless and hopeless shell of a man
But I couldn't help but smile as I shoveled on that sand
Cause I put my love six feet underground
Then I bent down to kiss
The ground she would never walk

Lies
03:25
|
|||
(She was my angel, she was my life
Raised me up so clean so right
One day she said (though she never believed)
“Boy you can be just anything you dream”
She told me lies but her lies set my dreaming heart right on fire )
Ran off to the city so young so free
Gonna show those big boys just what I’d be
So I played them a sweet song and they had their laugh
"Boy this the real world you don’t stand no chance"
They told me lies but their lies set my hungry heart right on fire
Well I found me a lady pretty as can be
I made her my baby I told her her all my dreams
But she could not handle all my heat
Said you never gonna make it, such a stupid little dream
She told me lies so I set her lying heart right on fire
And I grew angry, I grew cold
Sick of all these liars trying to poison my soul
I got hungry and I got mean
Should have never told me what I cannot be
No I’m going to place safe for you
And all those dreams that never came true
Now I thank my mother for all she’s done
And I know I’ll say the same thing when I have me a son
Cause she taught me play with fire and oh how I’ve burned
But if you want what you desire that’s the only way you’ll learn
She told me lies but her lies set my hungry heart right on fire

Rarin' to Roam
03:26
|
|||
23 years with this heart of mine
Tender as a worm on a fishing line
I’m hoping for a nibble not hoping for a bite
Much to young to tie my line to tight
Well I never grew up, guess I never tried
Heard the older you get the closer you are to dying
I’ll admit Imma lonely, I’ll admit Imma scared
Cause I’m not so sure I’ll ever care
One foot in your river bed, one on shore
Longing to love but I live to explore
Gotta lay you in the water
Can’t take you home
Cause the sun is rising and I’m
Rarin’ to Roam
23 years with this heart of mine
Just trying to figure out how to spend my time
Cause a life without loving is a life un-lived
And a man without a mission is an empty tin
I could date one in the morning to fill my bed at night
But something about that just don’t sit right
Cause every day I’d drag her deeper down
Till I up and leave her to drown
One foot in your river bed, one on shore
Longing to love but I live to explore
Gotta lay you in the water
Can’t take you home
Cause the sun is rising and I’m
Rarin’ to Roam
23 years with this heart of mine
As tender as a worm on a fishing line

Bottle of Wine
04:15
|
|||
Bottle of wine and a broken heart
Never the way you want to start
Bottle of wine and an empty man
Holding on to any hope he can
I don’t know if you meant to call me
But your name lit up my phone
Now I’m here on your doorstep
Oh God, I should go
The shallow knock on your doorway
Bounces round my hollow bones
Drowns out the words you say
That’s alright, I already know
But I don’t know how you ever loved me
I can’t hardly even love myself
I don’t know why you never left me
Leaving you is my biggest regret
My bottle of wine
Is as empty as my heart
You took my bottle of wine
And you smashed it apart

Two-Timer's Roulette
02:43
|
|||
Round these parts you better use your smarts
We gonna wind up in a gutter all dead
Forget rest or you sunday best
They ain’t no use where we’re heading
She said she wanted to write a western
I know a place where the sun won’t set
Said she’s looking for inspiration
Well baby how bout a spin of two-timer’s roulette
There’s outlaws in-laws, no laws at all
Cept for the laws of lead and steel
The band plays The Band but I’m a silly little man
Cause I’m just trying to Ophelia (oh feel ya)
She said she wanted to write a western
I know a place where the sun won’t set
Said she’s looking for inspiration
Well baby how bout a spin of two-timer’s roulette
Now she howls for the barkeep don’t gimme nothing sweet
I like to drink me some bourbon
Takes a moment to register, she’s really just robbing the register
Giving the keep a .45 caliber sermon
She said she wanted to write a western
I know a place where the sun won’t set
Said she’s looking for inspiration
But really she was taking me for a spin of two-timer’s roulette

Take a Walk
04:28
|
|||
Heading out of town bout to board a train
Take a minute stop and think again
I know where it goes is warm and safe
But what kind of price do I have to pay
I seen your clean pastels and your teeth bleach white
Your diamond cut suits and skin so tight
Wont step on the lawn or out the box
Such a happy little paradox
I’ll take a walk to the otherside
Where the revolutionaries light their fires
I’ll take a walk where the dreamers fly
Their flags of freedom and the dead men died
I’ll take a walk
I’ll take a walk
Well now mother this is goodbye
I hope to see you but I can’t say I will
If I make through on the otherside
I’ll be a better man not some bitter pill
I’ll take a walk to the otherside
Where the revolutionaries light their fires
I’ll take a walk where the dreamers fly
Their flags of freedom and the dead men died
I’ll take a walk
I’ll take a walk
So come all you snakes and come all you gamblers
Bite at my heels I’ll take my chances
It’s one for the money and two for the show
I’m twenty-two baby it’s time I roll
No I can’t go back even if I wish I could
One bite of that apple was so fucking good
And I’m sorry father I just can’t
Hop on some train to the promised land
Cause money’s not an end it’s means to be free
But I’d rather take a walk and feel the dirt beneath my feet

Arts Fishing Club Appleton, Wisconsin
The name "Arts Fishing Club" is a reminder to approach music the way my grandfathers (Art Kessenich & Art Schmidt) taught me
to fish: cast out with an earnest intention of landing a big one, but remember happiness is not what we end with. The reason to fish is to be in the boat with people we love.
Music is the same for me. I strive to better myself but ultimately it is about the adventure.
